把事物以及人们对事物的认识绝对化的思维方式。特点是割裂事物和人的认识的绝对和相对的关系，只承认其绝对性，否认其相对性。不承认一切过程都有始有终、此过程必然转化为他过程，不承认绝对之中存在着相对。绝对地肯定一切或否定一切，认为某一认识是一成不变的、永恒无误的真理。绝对主义有时也作为现代西方哲学中新黑格尔主义的绝对唯心主义的别称。
