光子晶体是一类具有周期性介电常数结构的材料，可以通过改变材料的物理结构和折光性质来调制特定波长光的传播。其中，刺激响应型光子晶体的光子带隙结构可以随着外界刺激（例如蒸气，温度，应力，pH和电磁场）的变化发生改变。通过在可见光波长范围内调制其衍射波长，可以直接观察到颜色改变，在化学传感、生物检测、防伪标示和加密存储等诸多领域中有巨大的应用前景。
