Nutrient dynamics and biological consumption in a large continental shelf system under the influence of both a river plume and coastal upwelling
Nutrient dynamics biological consumption large continental shelf system influence of both a river plume coastal upwelling
2014/4/4
We examined the dynamics of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN, nitrate + nitrite), dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP), and silicate (Si(OH)4) in the northern shelf of the South China Sea in summer, ...

Transport and consumption of oxygen and methane in different habitats of the Ha˚kon Mosby Mud Volcano (HMMV)
Transport oxygen methane
2014/4/17
The Ha˚kon Mosby Mud Volcano is a highly active methane seep hosting different chemosynthetic
communities such as thiotrophic bacterial mats and siboglinid tubeworm assemblages. This study focus...
Marine effect of introduced salmonids: Prey consumption by exotic steelhead and anadromous brown trout in the Patagonian Continental Shelf
Marine effect of introduced salmonids Prey consumption exotic steelhead anadromous brown trout the Patagonian Continental Shelf
2014/4/16
On the basis of stable isotope analysis, we estimated the marine diet of the most abundant anadromous salmonid species in Patagonian Atlantic basins. The results were coupled with bioenergetic and pop...
Hypolimnetic oxygen consumption by sediment-based reduced substances in former eutrophic lakes
Hypolimnetic oxygen consumption sediment-based reduced substances former eutrophic lakes
2014/4/16
We quantified the areal hypolimnetic mineralization rate (AHM; total areal hypolimnetic oxygen depletion including the formation of reduced substances) in two formerly eutrophic lakes based on 20 yr o...
Biological consumption of dimethylsulfide (DMS) and its importance in DMS dynamics in the Ross Sea, Antarctica
Biological consumption of dimethylsulfide DMS importance in DMS dynamics in the Ross Sea Antarctica
2014/4/18
We studied the biological consumption of dimethylsulfide (DMS) and its role in controlling DMS concentrations in the Ross Sea, Antarctica, during the spring (Nov) and summer (Jan) of 2005. Surface DMS...
Seasonal variation in consumption of benthic bacteria by meio- and macrofauna in an intertidal mudflat
Seasonal variation an intertidal mudflat
2014/4/18
The trophic fate of benthic bacteria in an intertidal mudflat (Brouage, Marennes-Ole′ron, France) was
evaluated in situ, and environmental parameters that potentially influence the consumption of bac...
Staying alive: The post-consumption fate of parasite spores and its implications for disease dynamics
Staying alive parasite spores disease dynamics
2014/4/18
Studies on the effects of selective predation by fish on disease dynamics in Daphnia generally assume that
consumption by fish means the death of the parasite. I use a combination of feeding trials a...

Valuable mineral resources are widely distributed throughout the seabed. autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are preferable to remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) when probing for such mineral resources as the extensive exploration area makes it difficult to maintain contact with operators. AUVs depend on batteries, so their power consumption should be reduced to extend exploration time. Power for conventional marine instrument systems is incorporated in their waterproof sealing. External intermittent control of this power source until termination of exploration is challenging due to limitations imposed by the underwater environment. Thus, the AUV must have a power control system that can improve performance and maximize use of battery capacity. The authors developed such a power control system with a three-step algorithm. It automatically detects underwater operational states and can limit power, effectively decreasing power consumption by about 15%.
surface piercing propeller boundary element method hydrodynamic characteristics
2011/9/13
Demand for high-speed marine vehicles (HSMVs) is high among both commercial and naval users. It is the duty of the marine vessel’s designer to provide a hull and propulsion system that diminishes drag...

2014/5/30
The degradation of phytoplankton and seagrass organic carbon (OC) in sulfate-reducing (SR) and methaneproducing (MP) sediments was tracked by measuring concentrations of particulate OC (POC), hydrolys...
